EEEEE. My Kindle is set to ship tomorrow, which means I should have it Thursday or Friday! EEE! I am going through my fabric stores to find some nice ones to make the cover from. Or at least, fabrics that go together. Happi times!

I also have the new Professor Layton, so puzzle-solving glee ahead! Mmm Professor!

Mom has lent me Carnivale to watch and I am thus-far enamored. She explained the basic plot to me and then was like "And the Kurgan's the Priest! :D" to which I boggled. (Highlander is on my mother's yearly rewatch list along with Conan, Terminator, The Princess Bride, and Last Crusade) So anyway I was listening to him talk (and watching) and I was like "... I know that deep charming and persasive yet slightly menacing voice. .... LEX LUTHOR OMG!!!" And that actor did/does indeed play Lex Luthor in the animated DC universe.

Amazon is weird. Why do I say that? Because my package went from Tulsa, OK to Louisville, KY before coming to Mesquite, TX and from there to my apartment in Richardson. Very odd.

Asassin's Creed is so awesome. I <3 things that go for general historical accuracy in that time period!

Finished my Percy purse! Woo! NOw to go back to those mitts I was making to keep me busy till the yarn for mom's christmas present arrives.

Yesterday was pretty damn awesome. Mom and I went furniture shopping as I wanted a bedside table (I had finally had enough of using cardboard boxes as a table) and she wanted either an ottoman or a coffee table. LO! At a thrift/consignment store we acheived victory! I got a really badass and well-made bedside table for $10, and she got a nice wheeled ottoman of perfect height for $16. Granted we're both going to be asthetically modifying our purchaces but daaaaaamn. Such savings! :D

.. and then we went and watched 300 and had a ROUSING good time of it. And then I made mom watch an episode and a half of Avatar. Cause it was on.

I has:

  • Batman Bubblebath

  • Yarrrrrn! (a bag of 10 balls of cotton and cotton blends for $5. WIN!)

  • In a day or so a new cell on a plan with Dave. God but the employee perks for buying cellphones and plans are good when you work for AT&T.

  • Varigated thread for my sewing machine. eeeeeehehehe.

I have:

  • Beaten the Demon Wall in FF12 (the one you're supposed to fight) on the 3rd try. Woo! (my party consists of Vaan, Penelo, and Fran. I'm considering swapping Vaan out for either Balthier or Basch.)

  • Reached level 32 with my Shaman.

  • Learned (roughly) how to do Entrelac. It's kind of a pain, but Hmmmm. Might need to get some SWS or something to further experiment.

So today I am minding my own business and playing FF12, and I've been hearing a crow get louder and louder, but yaknow, they live around here. And then the cawing's REALLY loud. So I look up and there's this crow sitting on our patio railing cawing in the window. Of course the movement of me turning my head caught his attention and he jumps and gives me a dirty look and flies off to another balcony and caws at THEIR windows.

Crows are silly.

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough...

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the "Milky Way".

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

(Animated calliope interlude)

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

Ah yes, I remember now, what I was going to comment on. My soul craves birkenstocks. or at least, you know, some nice sandals which aren't of the "less than $5 bin at wal-mart" variety that I wear and destroy in a summer. I used to have some sketchers sandals - lots of woven straps, back-strap, thick doc marten-esque soles... but those finally succumbed after years of heavy, heavy wear. So far the only things I've seen that come close for sheer comfort and durability are Birkenstocks, and even though it's getting closer to winter, some nice sandals are hard to beat. Winter. Socks and shoes! Oh god, I need to find my mary-janes, or something. My sneakers, while I love them, get boring after a while, and I don't have enough knee-high socks anymore to wear the boots every day. I wonder where they've all dissappeared to. I bought like 2 packs of them. Hurmn.)

Speaking of shoes... SOCKS. So I've been toying with the idea of trying to knit several pairs of socks for the coming winter. Fun-colored and striped things, you know. Knee-high socks would probbably take more stamina than I have, but I'm still toying with the idea. Now if only I could find some decent self-striping yarn. Most of the patterns out there SUCK frankly, and the only ones that don't are rather expensive ($18 for a skein is too much. so is $20. I don't even pay that much for BOUGHT exciting socks!.... unless they're really thrilling.)
